The VMF pallet in detail

The VMF pallet (Verreries Mécaniques de France) is a sector standard created and managed by the CSVMF (the standardisation committee of the French mechanical glassworks). It is designed exclusively for the packing and transport of empty bottles and glass jars — a use where deck flatness and stability are critical to avoid breakage.

Specific construction

Perimeter-base pallet with 4-way entry and a top deck of 7 boards, 18 mm thick. The perimeter construction guarantees even load distribution and maximum stability when stacking — essential for fragile glass products.

Hot-iron branding

Every VMF pallet carries a hot-iron brand on 2 diagonal outer blocks stating: the manufacturer mark, the glassmaker client number and the production date (month/year). This branding provides traceability within the deposit loop.

A deposit-loop pallet

The VMF circulates in a closed deposit loop between French glassworks and their customers — the closest notion in international logistics is a sector-run deposit/exchange circuit, comparable in principle to the EPAL exchange pool but restricted to the glass industry.
